Thursday, December 1, 2016 – Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks and Piney Run Park recently named Chris Pearce of Taneytown, Maryland as the winner of the second annual Big Fish Contest. This contest was open to anglers at Piney Run Park who caught the largest fish during the April 1 – October 31, 2016 operating season.
Mr. Pearce rose to the top of the leader board by catching a Channel Catfish weighing 17 pounds that measured 31 inches long on October 29. As a result, The Board of County Commissioners along with the Director of Recreation and Parks, Jeff Degitz and Piney Run Park Superintendent, Sandy Buterbaugh presented Mr. Pearce with a check for $1,000 and a free park vehicle pass for 2017 along with an opportunity to defend his title next year.
Piney Run Park will open for the 2017 operating season on April 1 and the 2017 Big Fish Contest will be just one of many reasons to visit the park. For more information about Piney Run Park or how to purchase a season pass, please visit pineyrunpark.org.
