The following statement was issued by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department
On April 12th, 2016, at approximately 7:30 pm, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the Walmart located at 6400 Ridge Road, Sykesville, for the report of a theft of two televisions that had just occurred. While en route to the store, information was obtained that the possible suspect vehicle was a white Dodge pickup truck with an extended cab and lifted suspension.
A Maryland State Police Trooper who was patrolling in the area located the suspect vehicle, stopping it in the 7200 block of Ridge Road, Marriottsville. The vehicle was operated by Bernell James Ray, 50 years old, with a Baltimore address, and the passenger was identified as Duane Martin Brewer, 41 years old, from Eldersburg. Located in plain view within the vehicle were two Samsung 50” televisions, which were identified by Walmart Loss Prevention as the stolen items. Both Bernell James Ray and Duane Martin Brewer were placed under arrest and transported to Carroll County Central Booking. Bernell James Ray was charged with theft, conspiracy to commit theft, and driving on a suspended license. Duane Martin Brewer was charged with theft, theft scheme, as well as charges related to cds paraphernalia located during his arrest.
